Are the San Diego Padres World Series favorites?

The San Diego Padres have had an excellent offseason. They signed Xander Bogaerts to a long-term contract and added Matt Carpenter, Nelson Cruz, Michael Wacha, and others.

They'll also get a full season with Juan Soto and Josh Hader and have Fernando Tatis Jr. back eventually and get most of the season out of him too. Over the offseason, they built a surprising NLCS appearance into a genuine contender.

This is only bolstered by the fact that Manny Machado has now re-signed for a massive extension. This while was once planning to opt out at season's end for a bigger and better contract (perhaps elsewhere).

However, that move hasn't changed their 2023 roster. It's fantastic news for 2024 and beyond, but Machado is already in San Diego. Will any of this make them World Series favorites for 2023?

Do the San Diego Padres have the best World Series odds?

Unfortunately, this does not make the Padres the World Series favorites for 2023. Despite having a nice offseason, it was always going to take a lot to make the 2022 Wild Card team into World Series favorites.

Right now, they're +1000 to win it all. That's behind the New York Mets, Atlanta Braves, New York Yankees (all +800 to win it all), the Los Angeles Dodgers (+750), and the Houston Astros (+600).

They're a real contender and have a good shot at making a deep postseason run, but they're far from the favorites right now.
