San Diego Padres star Manny Machado is one of the key cogs in the star-studded lineup, expected to be one of the contenders for this year's World Series.

Manny Machado met his wife, Yainee Alonso, through her brother Yonder Alonso, a former Cincinnati Reds and San Diego Padres player and current MLB Network analyst.

The Alonso siblings were born in Cuba before moving to Miami a few years later. Manny Machado and Yannie met in 2009. They started dating in 2011, and Manny made sure to ask for Yonder's permission before that.

The couple got engaged in early 2013, and got married on Dec. 6, 2014, in France.

Alonso is a pre-med graduate from the University of Miami.

Machado posted this picture on Instagram after ending his 2018 regular season with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

"What an end to a great season with 163 games!!!! Couldn’t have done it without you by my side!!! Thank you to all those who said I couldn’t do it! NOW... Who’s ready for playoffs????? #thebestcoast #letsgo"

On her birthday, Machado shared this lovely post:

"Happy birthday to the most beautiful amazing person in this planet, that I get to call my wife!!!! Wishing you nothing but continuous happiness and love forever I love you!!!!!!!! May all your wishes become reality!!!!! Forever my sweetheart 😍"

Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic recently tried to analyze why a contract extension with the Padres may be on the cards for the third baseman.

Rosenthal believes teams like the Mets, the Yankees and the Dodgers will definitely be lurking to snap up such a quality player from the free agency market. The Padres are looking to build a squad good enough to win the World Series, and losing such a player to their rivals will be a big blow. He is a favorite of the team owner, Peter Seidler.

The Padres will also believe they have a better chance at retaining Manny Machado than Juan Soto, who is set to hit free agency after the 2024 season.

Machado is the face of a team that has not shied away from heavy investment to compete with other teams. If the other Padres' stars are fit and firing, they might well be the team to beat, as his teammate Fernando Tatis Jr. recently proclaimed.
