The Baltimore Orioles are at the top in the AL East with a 59-38 record. However, the New York Yankees (59-40) and Boston Red Sox (53-42) are hot on their trail in the pennant race.

Although they have a strong roster capable of competing in the postseason, there’s no harm in adding some services to ensure participation chances. They’ll likely look at options with the 2024 Trade Deadline approaching.

In a live show by "Talkin’ Baseball" on Friday, former professional baseball player Trevor Plouffe dropped a bomb about Orioles rookie sensation Jackson Holliday.

“I think Jackson Holliday is the biggest name that’s gonna get traded,” Plouffe said.

“Because I think Orioles are like, Let’s Go! What are we waiting for? We have a whole upper-level farm system of dudes that we can get rid of to get [Garrett] Crochet, to get Luis Robert. And he would be I think then at that point the biggest name to be traded.”

Orioles and MLB’s Pipeline’s top-ranked prospect hit a high wall when he debuted earlier this year. He failed to live up to the reputation of being the former No. 1 overall draft pick in 2022 and was optioned for the minors after his brief 10-game stint with the O’s.

MLB expert highlights Orioles’ focus for the trade deadline

Jon Heyman of the New York Post pointed out the Orioles’ focus for the trade deadline. Both division rivals, the Yankees and Orioles are in the market for pitchers, but the O’s are more into starters, he believed.

However, that doesn't rule them out from looking for talented relievers like Tanner Scott and Mason Miller, whom they’ve already contacted, according to Heyman.

“But even if the Orioles’ more obvious need is the rotation, they are in touch on big relievers, including two All-Stars — ex-Oriole Tanner Scott and even the 103.7 mph-throwing Mason Miller. Miller may not go anywhere, but don’t put it past the Orioles to be able to land both a useful or better starter and reliever,” Heyman reported.

Apart from Jackson Holliday, the Orioles have four more promising rookies, catcher/first baseman Samuel Basallo, outfielder Colton Cowser, third baseman Coby Mayo and outfielder Heston Kjerstad, whom they could use in the trade deadline to solidify the roster.
