Shohei Ohtani, a Los Angeles Angels outfielder and bat, has established himself as one of Major League Baseball's top players by displaying his ability on the field.

Ohtani was born on July 5, 1994, in Oshu, Iwate, Japan, to Kayoko and Toru Otani. In high school, his mother competed at the national level in badminton. Meanwhile, his father was a Japanese Industrial League amateur baseball player.

Ohtani, who is 26 years old, has Japanese citizenship and is an ethnic Japanese citizen. Despite the fact that the majority of Japanese people practice Shintoism, Ohtani and his family are practicing Christians.

Before joining MLB, Ohtani was a member of the Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) Pacific League's Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters. He was the first Fighters draft selection in 2012, and he pitched and outfielded in the NPB from 2013 to 2017. Ohtani set the NPB record for the fastest pitch in October 2016.

He was named the American League (AL) Rookie of the Year in 2018 and the AL Most Valuable Player in 2021. In 2021, Ohtani became the first two-way player in MLB history with 10+ home runs and 20+ stolen bases as a hitter and 100+ strikeouts and 10+ pitching appearances as a pitcher in the same season.

Ohtani is the only player in MLB history to be an All-Star pitcher as well as a batter. He became the first player in modern history to qualify for both the batting and pitching leaderboards in the same season in 2022.

Last but not least, the two-way Superstar struck out Angels great teammate Mike Trout to earn Japan a 3-2 World Baseball Classic title victory against the United States.
