Minnesota Twins GM says bringing back Carlos Correa will benefit the team in the future: "That will pay dividends for the franchise for years"

Minnesota Twins v Cleveland Guardians
Carlos Correa re-signed with the Twins

Carlos Correa signed with the Minnesota Twins after agreeing to deals with both the San Francisco Giants and New York Mets. The latter two teams had physical concerns and couldn't go through with the signings, but the Twins had no issue bringing him back.

Correa is one of the biggest stars in baseball, so signing him helps the team get better. For Twins GM Thad Levine, it'll help in more ways than one.

Levine opened up about the entire process:

"We were in communication with him literally before the offseason started. We never stopped staying in contact with him. I think Carlos was also very communicative with our players, which gave us some hope behind the scenes that we had a genuine opportunity to sign him. [Scott Boras] was very clear with us that Minnesota was one of the destinations that Carlos had prioritized."

He continued:

"In the past, there was a perception that we weren't eligible to talk to players of this caliber on the free agent market and the fact that we were able to pursue him and more importantly sign him, I think it's just a great sign for the Minnesota Twins fans."

In the end, Levine believes Correa's return will help the team moving forward:

"We're not relegated to talking about the top 80% of the free agent class, we can talk about the top 100% of the free agent class. Hopefully that will pay dividends for the franchise for years to come."

Correa's signing proves that the Twins can get big-name free agents. It proves that they're a destination where stars can come to play, which will only help in negotiations moving forward.
