Anyone who has spent more than one minute paying attention to MLB news this season knows that Shohei Ohtani's future is one of the most hotly debated topics right now.

The 28-year-old Japanese superstar's one-year contract with the Los Angeles Angels will expire at the end of the season. A two-way stud who is just as dangerous in the batters box as he is mesmerizing on the mound is expected to get contract offers in excess of $500 million.

While everybody knows that Shohei Ohtani will get paid a staggering amount of money, nobody quite knows where he is headed. During a game on May 22, Jared Carrabis, a well-known MLB podcaster gave his opinion.

During the pre-game of the Angels' match against the Boston Red Sox, Ohtani was seen going over to greet Sox outfielder Masataka Yoshida. Yoshida, a two-time NPB batting champion, signed a five-year deal with the Red Sox earlier this year to mark his entrance into the MLB.

Carrabis took to Twitter to offer his take that this moment between the countrymen is proof that Ohtani will be coming to Boston when his term with the Los Angeles Angels expires.

In addition to being from the same country, Ohtani and Yoshida were teammates on the 2023 Japanese World Baseball Classic team. Yoshida hit 13 RBIs en route to his team's victory in March, setting a tournament record and gaining a place on the All-Classic team.

Ahead of the game between the two teams, both were lagging in their division and desperate to get things back on track. The low-scoring affair was broken open in the eighth inning, when Angels hitter Mickey Moniak hit a solo home run, ensuring a 2-1 Angels victory.

Shohei Ohtani's destination is still far from established

Although the interaction is far from any sort of proof that Shohei Ohtani will actually join the Red Sox, it reminds us of the mystery that still confounds the baseball world. While the LA Dodgers and New York Yankees are always prime contenders for the hottest free agents, perhaps Carrabis' suggestion may be more than a biased opinion, and turn out to be a serious prediction regarding Ohtani's future in the MLB.
