The San Diego Padres are in agreement with Jake Cronenworth to extend the highly-rated infielder to a seven-year, $80 million deal. The move is part of a bigger trend by the organization to lock in some of its top talent to long-term contracts.

Cronenworth joins a long-list of superstars who have committed their future to the club. Both Manny Machado and Yu Darvish recently signed lucrative long-term extensions. The club has also signed pitcher Joe Musgrove to a five-year, $100 million extension in 2022.

MLB podcaster Jared Carrabis, known for his witty remarks, made an interesting observation about the Padres' new strategy.

"You must feel like the biggest loser if you play for the San Diego Padres and aren’t signed through 2067" - Jared Carrabis

Carrabis makes a valid point. San Diego has been extremely aggressive with their offers and the management has secured many of their star players into big contracts.

Along with Cronenworth, Machado, Musgrove and Darvish, there are a few other big-name players who have committed their futures to the club.

Prior to the 2021 season, Fernando Tatis Jr. signed a massive 14-year, $340 million deal that will keep him at the club through 2035.

Former Boston Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts signed as a free agent during the offseason to a 11-year contract.

While the majority of the team's stars have signed long-term deals, there are a few players on standby.

Juan Soto, most notably, is set to become a free agent at the end of the 2024 season. The club traded some of their top prospects in July to bring the slugger over from the Washington Nationals. It will be interesting to see if Soto is next on the list to receive a massive offer.

"Tonight, Manny Machado plays the first game of his 11-year, $350 million extension with the San Diego Padres. Included in his contract: Hotel suite for all road games Luxury box tickets for all home games Full no-trade clause 1% of salary donated to charity"

The organization has been one of the most active teams during the offseason. The team is on a mission to claim their first ever World Series. Since their inception in 1969, the club has reached the World Series twice, but lost on both occasions.

The future looks bright for the San Diego Padres. They have built a core roster that is capable of challenging for years to come.
