MLB the Show 23 revealed their first batch of player ratings. The top 12 players were released a few weeks ahead of the game's official release. There are quite a few exceptional baseball players this year and the ratings do their best to accurately assess them.

With 12 players revealed, there are just five 99 overalls, which are the best players in the game. Here are the members of the 99 overall club for MLB the Show 23.

MLB the Show 23 player ratings: Five big surprises

5) Paul Goldschmidt

Paul Goldschmidt is coming off an incredible season. He won the National League MVP last season after a great year and beat out some tough competition from St. Louis Cardinals teammate Nolan Arenado, and Manny Machado. As a result, he's rewarded by starting out the year as a 99 overall.

4) Jacob deGrom

Jacob deGrom is arguably the best pitcher in the world when healthy. Clearly, MLB the Show 23 believes that he is. In his first year in a Texas Rangers uniform, deGrom begins with the highest possible rating.

Injuries and performance in a new uniform may cause it to dip, but clearly the Show believes in deGrom.

3) Mike Trout

Is there a better baseball player in this era than Mike Trout? His MLB the Show 23 rating seems to think there isn't. The star outfielder for the Los Angeles Angels routinely finds himself in this club and it will take a serious injury or an awful slump to remove him from it.

2) Shohei Ohtani

Many players will utilize the Los Angeles Angels this season, as they are the only team with two 99 overall players. In fact, they're the only team with two 97 or higher overall players, and Shohei Ohtani is arguably their best player.

1) Aaron Judge

Aaron Judge had such an incredible season that it wouldn't have been a shock to see the Show invent a 100 overall for him. He outperformed his NL MVP counterpart Goldschmidt in nearly every category, and by a lot, so the 99 overall honestly feels too low for what Judge did last year.
