The Los Angeles Angels announced yet another significant offseason move, landing World Series champion Travis d'Arnaud. The two parties agreed to terms on a two-year, $12 million deal, helping bring championship experience and defensive versatility to a rebuilding Angels squad.
Despite being 35 years old, d'Arnaud is coming off another strong season with the Atlanta Braves. In 99 games, the veteran catcher posted a .238 batting average with 15 home runs, 48 RBIs and a .739 OPS. It is another intriguing move for the Angels, who look to bounce back from a disastrous 2024 campaign.

Even though adding d'Arnaud will help the Angels improve on both sides of the ball, several fans took shots at the struggling franchise on social media.
"They’re only two Ohtanis away from contending," one fan posted.
"The Angels are collecting the most random infinity stones rn," another posted.
"Why they have one of the best young catchers in the game?" one fan shared.
Although adding d'Arnaud will certainly help the Angels improve, some fans have also taken the time to question Mike Trout. The generational outfielder has long been one of the best players. However, his lack of playoff success has held his overall legacy back when it comes to conversations about his greatness.
"How much help does Trout need," one fan asked.
"Why can’t they put some talent around Trout? Imagine if he and Ohtani played on the same team," another fan shared.
"Still D’Arnaud ring for Trout am I right," one more added.
It remains to be seen what role Travis d'Arnaud will play for the club, given that Logan O'Hoppe has become one of the best young catchers in the game. If d'Arnaud settles into a backup role, the Angels will have one of the best catching duos in the MLB.
Travis d'Arnaud is the latest addition in a busy offseason for the Angels
Even though the offseason has been underway for a few weeks, it has been relatively quiet for every team except for the Los Angeles Angels. After posting a disappointing 63-99 record, the Angels front office has been busy revamping their roster ahead of the 2025 season.
Aside from Travis d'Arnaud, the Angels have also signed veteran pitcher Kyle Hendricks and claimed Oakland Athletics first baseman Ryan Noda off of waivers. They also traded for World Series MVP Jorge Soler from the Atlanta Braves and Scott Kingery from the Philadelphia Phillies. It will be interesting to see how the team approaches the rest of the offseason.
