The Pittsburgh Pirates and Bryan Reynolds are still in talks about an extension. Reynolds is slated to become a free agent after the 2025 season. Extension talks have been going on all offseason, with the two sides being pretty far apart.

The Pirates offered Reynolds a six-year, $80 million deal while Reynolds asked for an eight-year, $134 million extension. Now, the Pirates have upped their offer to a seven-year, $100 million deal. Reynolds is hesitant about signing that as he's looking for an opt-out option after the fourth year. He's not budging on the opt-out, either.

The team originally set a deadline on opening day to reach an extension with Reynolds, but that time has now passed. It seems like they really want to keep him on the team.

Reaching a deal to keep Reynolds would be huge for the Pirates. He's growing into one great outfielder, and with the young talent the team has in its system, the Pirates have the opportunity to be really good.

"Does bro not know how good he is??" one fan tweeted.
"Reynolds would be nuts to sign this," another fan tweeted.

Fans don't think that Bryan Reynolds should sign this contract. They believe the All-Star outfielder deserves more money.

Fans think he should get something closer to what Brandon Nimmo got this offseason from the New York Mets. The two sides agreed to an eight-year, $162 million contract.

The Pittsburgh Pirates are starting to build something after a couple of seasons of disappointment. Trading Bryan Reynolds would be a step backward for a ball club that is starting to build some momentum.

Fans have already gotten a taste of the type of players Oneil Cruz and Ke'Bryan Hayes can be. Cruz hit a no-doubt homer on opening day victory against the Cincinnati Reds.

They have great prospects down in the minors that are starting to develop. Termarr Johnson, who the team took with the fourth pick last year, hit .275 in Class A. Another highly-talked-about prospect they have is catcher Henry Davis, who they took as the first overall selection in the 2021 MLB Draft.

This team is not far from being a real threat to the rest of the league. With their prospects and the division they play in, watch out for the Pirates in the coming years.
