Roman Anthony has finally started his new chapter in the big league with the Boston Red Sox as he made his MLB debut against the Tampa Bay Rays at Fenway Park on Monday.
The 21-year-old opened up on the phone call he received on his way to Lehigh Valley, 30 minutes after his call to his dad. The content of the callback changed fast as he informed his family he was going to the big league.
Speaking about the emotions, he said it was unexpected and a surprise. However, his stance on the game remains the same - to practice hard and be resilient.

“That call to my family, few coaches, and friends was pretty emotional,” Roman Anthony said. “No matter when that call comes, nobody is really expecting it...It happens fast. It’s exciting—it’s what you dream of.”
The buzz around Anthony grew day by day among the Red Sox fans, especially after he blasted the 497-ft grand slam on Saturday for Triple-A Worcester.

With excitement, dreams, and new hopes on the line, Roman Anthony reconfirmed his ideals before his debut in the big league. He expressed that his goal remains the same that is, to help his team win games.
“Just trying to help this team win any way I can,” Roman Anthony. “Same game, [but] I haven't been a part of [this] yet. I'm excited to do that for the first time tonight. But no, it's just more of excitement.”
“It's more of knowing that you're ready, just trusting in my ability to go out there, and have fun and play with these guys and help the team win.”
Red Sox manager Alex Cora called his game “impressive” and praised his control of the strike zone and at-bat power. During his debut, he donned jersey No.48 and was suited up for the fifth in the team’s series opener against the Tampa Bay Rays.
The team designated Ryan Noda for assignment and placed Wilyer Abreu on a 10-day injured list.
