San Diego Padres superstar Juan Soto is reportedly dealing with an oblique injury suffered during spring training. He is considered to be day-to-day, but the team will likely play it safe. Oblique injuries are notoriously difficult to deal with if the recovery process is interrupted. Since we haven't hit opening day yet, there is no need to rush him back.

This is a worrying sign for Soto and the Padres, who have their sights set on a World Series championship this season. The injury could cause Soto to miss regular season time or have him get off to a slow start. The team around him is stacked, but they still need him to be a consistent presence in the lineup.

Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune broke the news on Twitter.

Juan Soto has already missed much of spring training while with Team Dominican Republic in the World Baseball Classic. While the tournament still helped him prepare for the upcoming season, it was not on the same schedule. Missing more time to prepare with the San Diego Padres is less than ideal.

With heightened expectations on the Padres this season, their fans are in a heightened state of anxiety about this injury. They will already be without Fernando Tatis Jr. for the first 20 games of the season due to his suspension. Injuries are the easiest way for a team's championship hopes to be dashed.

Juan Soto has been remarkably healthy during his career, playing in over 150 games in four of his six seasons. The best ability is availability, which Soto proved to have with the Washington Nationals. Perhaps, this oblique injury will remain minor and keep Soto on the field in the regular season.

Juan Soto gave San Diego Padres fans a good scare with this injury that will hopefully not linger for too long.

Will the San Diego Padres sign Juan Soto to an extension this season?

Juan Soto is slated to become a free agent following the 2023 season if he does not sign an extension. He will likely become one of MLB's highest paid players because of his skill level and age. Considering the Padres just extended Manny Machado on a huge money deal, they understand the value of their stars.

The San Diego Padres have shown a clear willingness to spend, and who better to spend on than one of the game's brightest stars.
