The Cincinnati Reds have officially moved on from manager David Bell. The move comes just one year after they signed him to a contract extension through the 2026 MLB season. This comes after a year in which they were expected to be a potential contender in their division but are currently far outside the playoff race.

ESPN's Jeff Passan said:

"The Cincinnati Reds fired manager David Bell barely a year after giving him a contract extension through the 2026 season."

The Reds are currently 76-81 and will not be able to finish above .500. Fans took to the comments section to voice their opinion on the move.

"Too bad you can’t fire the owner," one said.
"This is 5yrs too late. The entire FO needs to go," another added.

"I'm not saying they should not have done better. But no one had them much better than this," one pointed out.
"Besides age and health, he was the only thing holding them back. Bell steered the ship in the right direction, but wasn't able to take it to shore," another chimed in.

The Reds named bench coach Freddie Benavides the interim manager for the remaining five games of the season.

Reds release statement on David Bell firing

David Bell was the manager for the Cincinnati Reds for six seasons before being fired after a 2-0 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates. The manager guided them through some tough seasons and helped them build a solid roster filled with young talent, but the franchise opted to go in a different direction.

"David provided the kind of steadiness that we needed in our clubhouse over the last few seasons. We felt a change was needed to move the Major League team forward. We have not achieved the success we expected, and we need to begin focusing on 2025."

They will begin the search for a new manager in the offseason, which will come at the end of this month.
