"They always have to have a grievance": MLB sportscaster calls out Mets fans for whining about Juan Soto after brutal backlash over contract comments

MLB sportscaster Michael Kay went on a rant about New York Mets fans, calling them out over Juan Soto comments. He blasted the Mets community, labeling them as “ill-informed nitwits.”

The tirade started over Juan Soto, with rumors starting about how he looked “glum and unhappy”. In his podcast, Kay said (3:09):

“Mets fans cannot enjoy any kind of success. They always have to have a grievance. They always have to have something to complain about.

“And they’re so thirsty when it comes to being right and proving somebody who said something about their team wrong. So then, they misappropriate what people do say to fit their silly little childish narrative.”

Kay compared NY Mets fans with “fleas” and asked them to stop hounding him with negative backlash over his past comments. He admitted that he reported that Soto wanted to sign with the New York Yankees but went to Queens because his mother loved the Mets.

Michael Kay told Mets fans that had he had reported it wrong, the $765 million superstar or his agent, Scott Boras, would have corrected him.

“I also reported that at the beginning of the whole free agency process wanted to sign with the Yankees, and the thing that pushed him over to the Mets was his mom, loved the Mets and told him this is where you should sign,” Michael Kay noted.

“If I was so wrong about what I said, Juan Soto has spoken to the media about a 100 times since then, and not once has he said that that's not true."

Controversies over Soto’s performance and attitude in the dugout have been questioned since the season began. However, the superstar outfielder was seen having fun with his teammates and has made significant progress, with the ‘Shoto Shuffle’ back in action.

Michael Kay didn't stop by labeling the New York Mets fans as “ill-informed” but also called them “fleas” buzzing around him. He asked fans to not keep their focus on him:

“I don’t let fleas go on the back of lions. And you’re all fleas. … You think I need to make up something and ruin a 39, 40-year career? Make up something for what? What would clicks do for me, you bunch of ill-informed nitwits. Please, get over me.”

Talking about his struggles on the field, Juan Soto admitted that he needs “a little more time” to get back to 100%.
