Trade rumors involving St. Louis Cardinals slugger Nolan Arenado have been swirling. This is nothing new, as these rumors have been going on since last season, but they have intensified this offseason.
Arenado still has three years left on the books and a full no-trade clause, which puts him in the driver's seat. However, he's reportedly open to switching from third base to first base, which opens up the number of teams that could be interested.
This is a decision that former MLB slugger Eric Hosmer doesn't agree with. He went on social media to give his thoughts on the 10-time Gold Glove Award winner switching positions.
"Guy doesn't win a Gold Glove for the first time in 10 years, and we're booting him off 3rd base already?!," said Hosmer.
Arenado is regarded as one of the best third basemen in all the sport. He leads all current players with his 10 Gold Glove Awards. The next closest player is Mookie Betts who has six.
"Seems like a waste when he's great at 3B" said a fan.
Hosmer is not the only one that feels this way about Arenado. Many fans don't see the point in somebody like him moving to first base.
Which teams could be interested in trading for Nolan Arenado?
Plenty of teams could be after Nolan Arenado this offseason. He possesses one of the best gloves in the business and while he has taken a step back at the plate, he's still a reliable source of power.
One team that stands out here is the Houston Astros. Their third baseman, Alex Bregman, is currently a free agent this offseason, and Arendado could be a good replacement if they fail to re-sign him.
Not only could he help the club at third base, he could also help the club at first base as well. Houston rolled out Jose Abreu and Jon Singleton, making Arenado an instant upgrade.
The Arizona Diamondbacks are another team that could show interest here. Their first baseman, Christian Walker, is also a free agent. Arenado could play first base here or move to third, with Eugenio Suarez manning first base.
This is a situation baseball fans will want to pay attention to. While he's not a free agent, the trade rumors are starting to get hot for the eight-time All-Star.
