Since the departure of Freddie Freeman last year, Ronald Acuna Jr. has been picking up the slack for the Atlanta Braves. The 25-year old All-Star is determined to ensure that fans know that he is back in business.

Acuna was limited to only 82 games in 2021 after a career-threatening anterior cruciate ligament tear. Despite only playing half of the season, he still managed to hit 24 home runs and 52 RBIs.

Since returning to play in April 2022, Ronald Acuna Jr. has proved to have put his injury behind him. The oufielder hit .266/.351/.413 with 15 home runs and 50 RBIs. He was also named to the All-Star team for the third time in his career.

Born in the Venezuelan port city of La Guaira, Venezuela, Acuna Jr. comes from a baseball family. His father, Ronald Sr., spent years in the minor leagues, as did his maternal grandfather, Romualdo Blanco.

Ronald Acuna Jr. grew up playing baseball in the local leagues around the Venezuelan capital of Caracas. He signed as an international free agent with the Atlanta Braves in 2014, and began playing with them in 2018.

As a Venezuelan national, Ronald Acuna Jr. is eligible to represent his country. In the winter of 2022, he announced that he would indeed be suiting up for Venezuela in the March tournament.

Team Venezuela began their tournament on March 11 at LoanDepot Park, home of the Miami Marlins. They easily dealt with the Dominican Republic, considered to be one of the best teams in the World Baseball Classic, by a 5-1 score in their opener.

During Team Venezuela's March 12th game against Puerto Rico, Acuna Jr. walked twice and scored a pair of runs as his team once again rolled over the opposition, this time winning by a score of 9-6.

Ronald Acuna Jr. is central to keeping his team ahead this season

The Atlanta Braves battled back last year, winning 101 games to win their division on the last day of the season.

Although they are still seen as one of the top teams in the NL East, the competition coming from teams like the New York Mets is only getting stiffer.

If the Braves want continued success in 2023, they will need players like Ronald Acuna Jr. to bring their very best.
