The Miami Marlins are set to welcome their newest player, 20-year-old Eury Perez, who will make his big-league debut against the Cincinnati Reds on Friday. Perez, a Dominican professional baseball outfielder, was born on May 30, 1990, in San Luis, Dominican Republic, and began his professional career as an international free agent with the Washington Nationals in 2008.

He has also played for the New York Yankees, Atlanta Braves, and currently plays for the Sioux City Explorers of the Major League Baseball Association of America.

Perez comes from humble beginnings, being one of four children born to Eddy and Xiomara. His parents worked as a mechanic and a cashier, respectively. Despite his parents' short stature of 5-foot-3 and 5-foot-2, Perez stands at an impressive height of 6-foot-8.

Growing up in Santiago, Perez did not have access to ballfields in his neighborhood. However, he discovered a field under a bridge near a river with about seven other kids, and they borrowed softballs, a bat, and old gloves from a neighbor to start playing.

In 2007, Perez was signed by the Nationals for $25,000 when he was just 17 years old. Perez's mother had thought he would become a photographer like his father, but baseball was always his passion. He learned the sport from his uncles.

Eury Perez, Marlins' top prospect

Eury Perez is being called as Marlins' No. 1 pitcher prospect. The team made the same announcement on Wednesday from Double-A Pensacola Blue Wahoos.

Perez will become the youngest pitcher in the franchise's history when he takes the mound against the Reds at loanDepot Park on Friday at 6:40 p.m. ET. Although he had been sent back to the Blue Wahoos by the Marlins to work on his fielding and holding runners skills, Perez is now ready to make his mark in the big leagues.
