The Texas Rangers could be in trouble with news surrounding one of their top arms, Max Scherzer. It has been reported that the veteran righty is dealing with a thumb issue.

He has a cut on his thumb that he is working through right now. Cuts, blisters, and hangnails drastically change how a pitcher can pitch. Many go on the IL when they run into one of these problems, but it's the World Series, and that will not happen.

Scherzer will do his best to work through the injury and be there for his team. The team will need him whether they play the Philadelphia Phillies or Arizona Diamondbacks.

Scherzer spoke to the Fox postgame team about the implications of his thumb:

"I got actually a little cut on my thumb that I'm actually dealing with. That's actually more of a problem now" said Scherzer.

It is unclear whether Max Scherzer had the cut before his Game 3 start. It would explain why he was a bit off his game on the mound if he did. He went four innings, giving up five runs on five hits and one walk.

Scherzer also started Game 7 for the Rangers, but it did not last long. He went 2.2 innings, giving up two runs on four hits before Jordan Montgomery was handed the ball.

Pitchers have been stepping up for the Texas Rangers all season long. They lost their ace Jacob deGrom earlier in the season after he underwent Tommy John surgery.

This was a reason that they went after the $130 million veteran at the trade deadline. However, Scherzer has had his fair share of injuries this season as well.

At the end of the regular season, he suffered a right teres major strain that knocked him out of the rotation. Some were unsure if he would make it back in time for the postseason, but he pushed through.

Now, with the team in the World Series, there is no way Scherzer will let a cut stop him from taking the ball. It is just a matter of which game that might be.

Luckily for him, the Rangers have a couple of days off before Friday's Game 1 matchup. Scherzer can take this time to rest and heal the thumb up before he gets his name called.
