New York Mets' National League MVP candidate Francisco Lindor made an early exit during Friday's game against the Philadelphia Phillies. Lindor, who has been on a tear this season, left the game with reported lower back soreness.

Francisco Lindor wore a worried look on his face after fouling a ball off his right foot in the sixth inning. He didn't return to the defense, making an early exit from the game in the seventh. Lindor appeared to hold his knee after slipping between second and third, but a back issue forced him to end the game prematurely.

Before his departure, the NL MVP candidate continued his red-hot form, contributing to his team's score with an RBI double after going 2-4 in the first six innings. Eddy Alvarez replaced Lindor in the lineup, with Jose Iglesias taking up his role in defense.

While the Mets are yet to update on Lindor's injury, the star's potential issue could be down to fatigue after playing every game this season leading up to Friday's showdown.

Carlos Mendoza updates on Francisco Lindor's potential injury

Despite Francisco Lindor's early exit from the game, the Mets made it two wins in two after a comfortable 11-3 win over the postseason-bound Philadelphia Phillies. The Mets added four runs to their tally after Lindor's departure in the seventh.

A potential injury to Lindor could derail the Mets' pursuit of the final NL Wild Card spot. However, coach Carlos Mendoza isn't too concerned about his star player's status.

"I think if it was a closer game, he was going to fight that one," Mendoza said fafter the game.

While the Mets hold the final NL Wild Card spot, they are just one game ahead of the Atlanta Braves, who thrashed the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday to keep the pressure on.

They next face the Phillies in the second game of the series at Citizens Bank Park on Saturday and host the team from Philadelphia in a four-game series starting next week.
