It was another monstrous week for LeBron James as the NBA legend moved even closer to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's regular-season scoring record. James played in all three of the Lakers' games this week, putting up some staggering numbers as the team went 2-1. With his recent surge in play, James is now just 158 points shy of the 'Scoring King' title.

As he closes in on Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's record of 38,387 points, James has continued to turn back the clock and put up MVP-caliber numbers. On Sunday, in the team's 121-112 win over the Portland Trail Blazers, he recorded 37 points and 11 rebounds. On Tuesday, he produced another spectacular performance as he scored 46 against the LA Clippers.

To close out the week, James struggled in the team's win over the San Antonio Spurs, shooting 1 of 6 from beyond the arc while scoring 20 points. Also, thanks to nine rebounds and 11 assists, James was on triple-double watch.

With just 158 points to go, it won't take long for him to overtake Abdul-Jabbar. As the NBA All-Star weekend approaches, it seems as though James will break the record in time for the league to honor his achievement during the weekend's festivities.

Predicting when LeBron James could break Kareem's record

With just 158 points to go until LeBron James breaks the scoring record, everyone is anxiously wondering when he will do so. Using his career-scoring average of 27.1 points per game as a reference, it would take James six games to break the record.

With that said, however, James has been scoring like a machine as of late. If he continues to produce 40-point performances, he could break the record sooner.

Should James break the record in six games, it looks as though he'll make history on Feb. 7. The team is slated to host the OKC Thunder that night, making it the perfect setting for James' historic night.

Should he wind up missing a game as a result of an injury, he could break the record on Feb. 9, when the Lakers host the Milwaukee Bucks. In either case, James seems poised to break the record at home, which would be a monumental evening in LA.

The Lakers are set to take on the Boston Celtics at TD Garden on Saturday night. Ahead of the game, LeBron James was listed as questionable due to a sore left ankle.

As the team continues to make a push for the playoffs, it will be interesting to see whether or not they rise to the occasion against the Celtics.
