Diarra was ranked as a four-star recruit and No. 1 player in Connecticut by 247Sports and ESPN and attended Putnam Science Academy for three seasons. He moved to UConn for his junior year after spending two seasons at Texas A&M, where he attended 58 games, starting nine, and averaged 351 career points, grabbing 108 rebounds, with 86 assists, 47 steals, and shooting .363 overall. In his junior year, he attended 36 games and started three. He averaged 2.1 points, 1.3 rebounds, 1.8 assists per game. In the 2023-24 season, Diarra won the 2024 BIG EAST Sixth Man Award. He attended all 40 games and averaged 6.1 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game in 19.3 minutes per game.
