Lamont Butler Jr. is a collegiate basketball player, playing as a point guard for the Kentucky Wildcats in the Southeastern Conference (SEC). Butler grew up in Moreno Valley and attended Riverside Polytechnic High School.

During his high school basketball career, Butler became a four-year starter at Riverside Polytechnic. He broke the school's all-time scoring record previously held by NBA Hall of Famer Reggie Miller, finishing with over 1,800 career points. Following his high school graduation, Butler began his collegiate football journey with the San Diego State Aztecs. He chose San Diego over offers from Weber State, UC Santa Barbara, Colorado, St. Mary’s, and UC Riverside. As a freshman with the Aztecs, he averaged 4.3 points and 1.7 rebounds over 28 games. He was recognized for his defensive ability as a sophomore, as he was named to the Mountain West All-Defensive team while averaging 7.3 points per game. The pinnacle of his time at SDSU came during the 2022-2023 season when he played a crucial role in leading the Aztecs to the Final Four. In 2024, Butler transferred to the Kentucky Wildcats. As of January 2025, he is averaging 15.1 points per game while shooting nearly 61% from the field and over 48% from the three-point range.
