LJ Cryer is a guard for the Houston Cougars. He is a graduate student, as of the 2024-2025 season. At Baylor in 2020-21 which was his freshman year, he was off the bench in 20 games and helped his team to their Big 12 title and NCAA national championship. As a sophomore, his season was limited as he was sidelined for 15 games owing to a foot injury. He started his first career game against Stanford in which he scored 21 points in 32 minutes according to the Houston Cougars' official website.

In the 2022-23 season, he played 30 games which was his career high. Against Creighton, he scored 30 points and set the program scoring record in an NCAA Tournament game. As a senior in the 2023-24 season, he played in 37 games and started all of them for Houston. Cryer made his Houston debut against ULM in the season opener. In the Big 12 Championship, he recorded six 3-pointers and had a game-high 20 points and two rebounds in the semifinal against Texas Tech. For the NCAA Tournament, he recorded 17 points and three 3-pointers in the first-round game against Longwood. He also added three rebounds two assists and two steals in the game. In the Round of 32, he recorded 20 points, three 3-pointers, three rebounds, and four assists in overtime against Texas. In the following round, Cryer registered 15 points in addition to three rebounds against Duke.
