Colorado Buffaloes safety Shilo Sanders, the son of coach Deion Sanders, recently posted an unexpected story update on his Instagram, where he called for recruits to contact him and his brother, quarterback Shedeur Sanders.

“Defense transfers DM me,” Shilo wrote in an Instagram story. “Offense transfers DM [Shedeur]. This not Last Chance U.”

As usual, college football fans had various opinions on the rather unusual recruitment practice by the coach's son. A disgruntled user on X (formerly Twitter) said:

"Who do they think they are."

Many other users shared similar sentiments.

"The recruiters cause their dad won’t actually do it," one fan tweeted.
"No culture has ever had the coaches sons recruit through Instagram Colorado is just gonna become the land of misfit transfers" another fan tweeted.
"Won't be better than CSU again," one fan tweeted.
"They are such an unserious team," another fan tweeted.
"horrible look lmfao," one fan tweeted.
"4 win teams again," another fan tweeted.

Deion Sanders has an unorthodox recruiting style

Deion Sanders has always had an unorthodox manner in how he approaches things, both as a player and as a football coach. This was in full display when he took over as Colorado coach and encouraged players to enter the transfer portal.

According to a USA TODAY report, since becoming Buffs coach, Sanders has not undertaken any off-campus recruitment visits, instead opting to use word of mouth and the transfer portal as the main method of recruitment.

The report contrasted Coach Prime's recruitment style with Nebraska Cornhuskers coach Matt Rhule, who has made 486 off-campus visits and has visited 108 different high schools in various states.

“I’ll be honest with you: It’s the only way I know,” Rhule said in a USA TODAY interview. “It’s the way I was raised. They pay me to recruit, you know, so I’m gonna go do it.”

Deion Sanders has a $200,000 budget for the recruitment visits but he labeled it a waste of money during a spring practice news conference.

“There was an article that came out that said I don’t go on visits,” Deion Sanders said (via USA Today). “OK, my approach is totally different than many coaches’ approach. I’m a businessman as well, so I try to save our university money every darn chance I get.
"The kid comin’ here. Going there is just showcasing for me. That’s just blowing money. It’s blowing a bag, don’t make sense. I can’t do things other coaches can do. You know why? I’m Coach Prime. And I didn’t stutter when I said it.”

According to Deion Sanders, instead of him traveling to recruit prospects at their homes and talking to their parents, the opposite should happen and they should visit the campus, tour the facilities, and talk to him.

He also said that his stature would make the visits a waste of time due to the stir it would cause if he were to visit a high school. Sanders has an emphasis on recruiting mature players from the transfer portal rather than focusing solely on high school prospects.
