J.J. McCarthy's fiancée Katya sends 1-word message as ex-Michigan star Mike Sainristil gets engaged to girlfriend Seliana

Before Mike Sainristil became a phenom for the Washington Commanders, he flourished with the Michigan Wolverines, helping the team to three Big Ten titles and a national championship in 2023. Since then, a lot has changed for the cornerback, both professionally and personally.

In June 2024, Sainristil welcomed a baby daughter, Summer Elizabeth Sainristil, with his then-girlfriend Seliana Carvalho. Now, the couple is fostering their relationship even further. On Monday, Seliana announced their engagement in an Instagram post featuring several photos, including one of Sainristil down on one knee, proposing.

“Beginning of a new chapter but the story continues. 6/9/25🖤,” the caption read.

The happy news comes shortly after Minnesota Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy, Sainristil’s former Michigan teammate, and his fiancée, Katya Kuropas, shared in May that they are expecting a baby boy in September.

Katya responded to Sealiana’s post with a one-word comment:

“YAY 🤍🤍✨✨”

Sainristil also left a sweet message for his fiancée in the comments:

“This is forever 🤞🏿🖤,” he wrote.

Seliana and Sainristil have been together since October 2021, evident by Seliana posting a few pictures of them posing for their one-year anniversary on Oct. 5, 2022.

“1 year of happiness and growth, I thank God everyday. I love you, 143❤️🙏,” she had written in the caption of the Instagram post.

Mike Sainristil’s fiancée, Seliana Carvalho, used to play college soccer at American International College in Springfield, Massachusetts. Before that, she went to Lawrence Academy in Groton. After college, she became interested in performance psychology and started graduate studies in the field.

She began coaching young soccer players in March 2022 at Greenhills School in Ann Arbor, Michigan. After a year, she took a job as a clinical case manager at Acadia Healthcare, supporting people with mental health needs. In February 2023, Seliana became the head soccer coach at Taylor (Michigan) Preparatory High School, where she continues to guide young athletes.

According to her LinkedIn, she is a “passionate advocate for educational equity and public health” and also works as a “success coach,” offering online sessions to help individuals reach their personal and professional goals.
