Set to release on July 26, 2024, Deadpool & Wolverine just dropped its latest trailer, and it has proven to be as epic as one would expect. Featuring a plethora of characters from across the multiverse, the trailer opens up with Deadpool arriving to an older Wolverine in another universe.
Wade Wilson is seemingly dealing with the possibility of ‘losing everyone he loves’ and requires Wolverine, who has already lost his entire team, to help him fight against Cassandra Nova, Charles Xavier’s evil sister in the comics.
The Time Variance Authority, last seen in the Loki series, will also play a part and has effectively employed Deadpool in a mission in exchange for saving his universe. The trailer in itself promises a crazy ride from start to finish and has a range of Easter eggs fans will be looking forward to. Here, we talk about 10 of them.
Deadpool and Wolverine latest trailer: 10 Easter eggs
1) Azazel and Lady Deathstrike
Two notorious X-Men characters in the form of Azazel and Lady Deathstrike make their first appearances in the trailer after featuring in the Sony version of the series. Azazel was last seen in X-Men: First Class, portrayed by Jason Flemyng, and can be seen flying across the screen during one of the scenes.
He is joined by none other than Lady Deathstrike, seemingly villains who have joined Cassandra Nova’s team.
2) The X-Men are dead yet again
While the X-Men have surely edged closer and closer to their introduction in the live-action MCU, it seems that they have been given the roughest of starts. The ongoing X-Men ‘97 has recently seen the deaths of multiple major players, such as Magneto and Gambit.
The silver lining is that Charles Xavier has survived, but that is not true for whichever universe Deadpool is seen trying to get Wolverine to join him from.
3) Deadpool breaks the fourth wall
Deadpool has been breaking the fourth wall explicitly and implicitly right from the start of his time in the MCU. This movie follows the tradition strictly, as Ryan Reynolds’ character is seen talking about Kevin Feige in the film.
Deadpool is seen talking about how he would like nothing better than to do c**aine. However, he claims that the drug in itself is one of the things that is off limits for Marvel chief Kevin Feige, which is arguably the most obvious indication that Deadpool knows exactly who he is: a movie character inspired by comic books.
#7 Liefeld’s Just Feet
In one scene where Wolverine and Deadpool are seen walking across the screen, the background sees a shop that says “Liefeld’s Just Feet.” That in itself is a nod to the longstanding comic book joke that writer Rob Liefeld is not too good at drawing feet.
As a result, he would end up drawing only two ‘right foots’ for his characters, which is another way the movie is set to break the fourth wall.
#6 Red Skull’s car
Deadpool & Wolverine’s latest trailer gave plenty of evidence of the crazy multiversal journey that the protagonists are set to undergo. The low, sleek, almost F-1-like car that Captain America: The First Avenger’s villain Red Skull drove in the movie has also somehow made its way to the trailer.
How the vehicle features in the movie remains a mystery, but it is clear that a range of entertaining nods will be made a part of the movie.
#5 The Avengers are dead/missing?
Another obvious easter egg that the Deadpool and Wolverine universe includes is the fact that the Avengers have either been defeated or never existed in the universe. The movie might end up answering why the original Avengers Earth did not have the X-Men.
Regardless, one possible answer remains that Cassandra Nova has managed to defeat not just the X-Men, but also the Avengers in this universe!
#4 Ant-Man’s skull
The fact that Ant-Man’s skull has made it to the movie as Cassandra Nova’s base means that at least some, or one of the Avengers did exist in this universe. Hence, unlike the original planet Earth in which the OG Marvel stars existed, this one seemingly featured, at least at some point in time, both the Avengers and the X-Men.
That in itself opens up a range of questions and possibilities, all expected to be answered once the movie actually releases.
#3 Alioth
Another multiversal element that has made it into the movie is Alioth. The humungous cloud-like monster that guarded The Void in Loki has somehow also made his way to the universe in which Deadpool & Wolverine arrive.
Of course, Alioth’s presence is understandable because of the Time Variance Authority, which is set to play a major role in this movie.
#2 The Bar
The trailer also gives an obvious nod to the original X-Men film in which Wolverine was approached by Rogue. The scene has also made its way to an upcoming video game trailer by Insomniac.
The bar scene also sees Wolverine flaunt his Adamantium claws, which means that even in this universe, Stryker once experimented on him in a bid to weaponize him. This also means that even this Wolverine will have serious memory and loss issues.
#1 The Yellow Suit
Finally, the yellow suit that Wolverine is seen flaunting is straight from the animated series and the comics, which is again an obvious nod. Other easter eggs include a portal that the two titular characters jump through, seemingly created by Doctor Strange’s magic.
Furthermore, the yellow suit and the portal act as further evidence of the fact that the universe in question somehow had the X-Men co-existing with the Avengers, which for obvious reasons did not end well.
As the trailer itself suggests, it is clear that the upcoming movie will include a host of characters from across the MCU, and is almost certain to be an entertaining ride.
