The final of the T20 World Cup 2024 will see Team India go up against South Africa at the Kensington Oval in Barbados on Thursday, June 29. Both teams are unbeaten in the competition and will look to continue the winning run and lift the trophy.
India and South Africa streamrolled their opponents in the semi-finals to set up a date in the final. While the Men in Blue thrashed defending champions England by 68 runs, the Proteas knocked out Afghanistan by nine wickets.
Brimming with confidence, both teams will look to fire on all cylinders to take home the trophy. The two teams have met each other 26 times previously in the shortest format of the game, with India winning 14 of those. South Africa have won 11 matches, while one game yielded no result.
Most of these 26 fixtures have been close encounters and another edge-of-the-seat game is on the cards.
The Barbados wicket has aided fast bowlers to some extent and batters will have to spend some time in the middle before unleashing their shots. On that note, let's take a look at three batters who could score the most runs in today's final between India and South Africa.
#1 Suryakumar Yadav
Although he has struggled for consistency, Suryakumar Yadav has played some defining knocks in the T20 World Cup. He played a fine knock of 47 runs in the semi-final against England in Guyana.
Suryakumar will look to keep the good form going and play a decisive knock in the final. Although he will be up against some of the best pacers in the business, the World No. 2 batter has the game to succeed against all odds.
Suryakumar scored a 28-ball 53 in the only game the Men in Blue played at this venue against Afghanistan.
#2 Quinton de Kock
The wicketkeeper-batter has been South Africa's highest run-scorer in this tournament. The left-handed batter has amassed 204 runs in eight games at a strike rate of 143.66, including two half-centuries.
Quinton de Kock's form at the top of the order has been crucial to South Africa's success in this year's World Cup. He will look to continue the form and help his side win their maiden T20 World Cup.
De Kock also enjoys a stellar form against the Men in Blue, aggregating 312 runs in 10 matches at an average of 44.57.
#3 Rohit Sharma
The Indian skipper has led the team from the front with consistent performances in the T20 World Cup. Rohit Sharma is currently the third-highest scorer with 248 runs in seven matches at an average of 41.33 and a strike rate of almost 156.
Rohit played a blistering knock of 92 in their final Super 8 game against Australia and followed it up with a half-century in the semi-final against England. The right-handed batter will hope to continue the good form and lead the Men in Blue to the title.
