#2. 1st ODI at Hyderabad, March 2, 2019

In the first one-dayer of Australia’s 2018-19 tour to India played at Hyderabad, Zampa trapped Kohli leg before for 44.

Kohli went forward to a length ball that hit the pad first. The initial appeal was negated. Australia, however, went for the review, and replays showed that Kohli was hit in line, and was clearly out. Zampa had outfoxed Kohli rather cleverly, not for the first time.

The dismissal wasn’t to hurt India much though. Thanks to a professional bowling effort, they only had to chase 237 for victory. Kedar Jadhav’s unbeaten 81 and MS Dhoni’s sedate 59 not out took them home with ease, by six wickets.

#3. 3rd ODI at Ranchi, March 8, 2019

A week after the Hyderabad encounter, Zampa got Kohli again, in the third ODI of the series at Ranchi. India were set a tough 314 to clinch the game, and the series, courtesy Usman Khawaja’s 104 and Aaron Finch’s 93. India stumbled in the chase, and Kohli was the lone ranger, as he eased his way to yet another hundred batting second.

On 123, a Zampa googly undid the Indian captain. Kohli tried to whip the ball to midwicket. However, the ball sneaked under his bat and clipped the leg stump. Kohli was dismissed for a brilliant 123 from 95 balls, and India were all out for 281.

The impact of this dismissal was highly significant not only in terms of the match, but also the series. While Australia stayed alive by registering their first win in the five-match contest at Ranchi, they subsequently went on to triumph in the next two games and clinch the series.
