5 best bowling run-ups of all time

Dale Steyn’s run-up has perhaps been the most intimidating in recent years

#1 Michael Holding

Michael Holding is remembered most for his smooth bowling run-up

While Michael Holding may be one of the several fast bowling greats to have emerged from the West Indies, he did manage to carve out a niche of his own. The iconic Jamaican pacer is known to be one of the quickest bowlers to have played the game, and there were very few days in his career when he was off the radar.

Perhaps the best thing about the way Holding bowled was his silky smooth run-up which led to umpires nicknaming him ‘Whispering Death’ as they hardly heard his footsteps as he passed them by. He used to walk back a long way towards the boundary and then begin his elegant run towards the bowling crease followed by a nice little stride before eventually delivering the ball.

When it comes to the best bowling run-ups of all time, the one that Michael Holding had is certainly on top of the list.
