5 Indian batsmen who have tormented Australia in Tests

The Indian Cricket Team is scheduled to play four Test matches against Australia in Australia from the 6th of December. In the last two decades, India and Australia have produced some of the greatest matches of all time. Their rivalry has created countless moments every cricket fan can cherish.

#5 Gundappa Viswanath

Viswanath played some incredible knocks against Australia during his 14-year Test career

Gundappa Viswanath was one of the finest cricketers India produced in the '70s. He always exhibited his best cricket against the Australian team. While his career average stood at 41.93, his average against Australia was around 53.03.

The Karnataka-born cricketer played 18 games against Australia scoring 1538 runs which include four massive hundreds. The right-handed batsman was consistently performing well against his favorite opponents, scoring 50-plus scores in 13 out of his 18 games.

Viswanath, nicknamed "Vishy", played a major part in India's famous win at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in 1981, where he scored a match-winning hundred. He was also adjudged the Man of the Match for helping India win the match by 59 runs.

Sunil Gavaskar is widely regarded as one of the greatest Test batsmen ever to have played this beautiful game. Gavaskar, nicknamed as "Sunny", was always at his best when he played against the Australian Cricket team. The Little Master played 20 matches against Australia, scoring 1550 runs at an impressive average of 51.67 runs per match.

The Mumbaikar's ability to easily handle the fast bowlers helped him dominate the games even in alien territories.

Against Australia, he scored eight centuries from his 31 innings. It included three consecutive centuries in Australia in 1977. His century at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) during the same series earned a rare away-win for India in Australia.
