There has been a clear shift in the mindset of cricket fans as they have started regarding U-19 cricket as an important aspect of the game. The game has developed a lot over the years with skilled and exciting players coming through the ranks.

The English team have some great young prospects, the pick of which has been the captain, Harry Brook. Here are some facts about the Yorkshire man:

18 years of age

The Yorkshire teenager is just 18 years of age and has now become England's youngest captain in the U-19 format. He hails from the same county as England's Test captain, Joe Root. Though he is the captain for England at the World Cup, his first-class record for Yorkshire is quite average, having scored only 82 runs from 5 matches.

Brook celebrates his century

The Yorkshire man played a captain's knock to guide England home in a rather enthralling U-19 World Cup game where Bangladesh were bowled out for 175. The pitch was tough to bat on, as evidenced by the English openers being dismissed cheaply.

The teenager though played with flair and panache as he took the pacers to the cleaners and went downtown to the spinners, often using his feet.

Inside out shots and cover drives have become his trademark.

The all-rounder, who bats at number 3 for England, made his first-class debut against Pakistan A whilst still in high school. He followed his debut with three centuries and was instantly given a chance to tour India in 2017 against India U-19.

His impressive performance earned him the captaincy for the U-19 World Cup in New Zealand.

Harry Brook's father was hit with a curfew

Harry's father was hit with a curfew after damaging a caravan. However, his curfew was lifted so that he could visit India to watch his son play for the England U-19 side.

Harry's father reportedly told the court that it was a 'once in a lifetime opportunity to watch his son playing against India', after which they were more than willing to lift the curfew.

Praises from cricket stalwarts

Harry Brook could make his senior debut soon

The English U-19 captain has, overnight, become the cynosure of all eyes after striking his stylish century. Martin Moxon, the former English player, even went as far as to say, 'the guy has the perfect credentials and right brain to lead England'.

The only thing Harry now lacks is some runs on the board, records to his name and experience at the highest level, all of which he will get in the coming years.

With England struggling to find a top-order batsman to complement Joe Root, his county-mate, Brook could be the apt choice.
