The heart of the matter

According to ESPN, the person believed to be behind the hurling of racist slurs tried getting in touch with Archer via a direct message on Instagram. The above provided the authorities with a shot in their arm with regards to their investigation with them now confident of recognising him and taking adequate action.

Additionally, the authorities are still monitoring the CCTV footage available and have asked for spectators to come forward with any bit of information that could help identify the culprit.

England’s director of cricket, Ashley Giles, remarked that he was saddened by such an incident and that the New Zealanders were equally hurt that such a circumstance had arisen on their patch. Giles also quipped that the English team management and board were in complete support of Archer, who had to unfortunately go through such an ordeal.

The former England spinner concluded, saying,

It's a good series and played in the right fashion and one person should not ruin that but it's a shame that sort of thing is still in society.

What’s next?

The authorities would be hoping to catch hold of the person guilty before the 2nd Test of the series begins on the 29th of November at Hamilton.
