If we rewind time and flutter the pages of Indian cricket over the last few years, it’s been terrible. We have been outplayed everywhere. It has been a nightmare not only for the players, but also for the fans of the Indian cricket team.
MS Dhoni seemed to have lost the Midas touch and things were definitely not falling in place. We faltered and hit rock bottom. Hope were dashed, dreams were seeming like mere dreams. Talk about World Cup triumphs seemed like castles in the air.
Optimism levels were not nil, we still hoped that the couple of months of experience gained Down Under would do some good – be they in losing causes. It was a sad period after having seen MS Dhoni lifting the Cup in 2011, and Sachin Tendulkar being lifted on the team’s shoulders for one final hurrah.
India’s blistering journey through the group stages
Arch-rivals Pakistan got smashed in the very first game. The Proteas got blown away in all departments of the game. The UAE match almost doesn’t deserve mention. The tale continued and the West Indies got pulverized.
What was common in all these wins was the brute force, the passion, the desire to bring it back. The Indian cricket team has played as an unit, scathing everyone coming their way. They seem to be the most devoted bunch of guys to realize a dream, a dream which is shared by the billion Indian cricket fans across the globe.
The eyes have lit up again and the confidence is back. The way we are going, come 29th march, and a drama shall unfold whose climax will unite all Indians again in the same way as was the case in 2011.
Bigger and more special dream
Maybe this dream will be a bigger and a special one. It’s not easy to win it Down Under. It requires the most apt skills, dedication and courage to do it in Australia and New Zealand.
Tears will again roll down and 1.5 billion people shall again stand together celebrating the biggest festival we Indians have ever witnessed. It would the most auspicious day if we pull it off; going by the current form, things do look great.
Hats off Team India, you guys have already made us proud.
