Devon Conway became the second New Zealand batter to record a double century in his first Test match. The first Kiwi player to accomplish this feat was Matthew Sinclair.

The Kiwi star made his Test debut versus the West Indies cricket team in Wellington. He came out to bat in the 12th over of the first innings after Reon King broke the opening partnership. Sinclair then built fantastic stands with Stephen Fleming and Nathan Astle.

While Fleming and Astle could not touch the 3-figure mark, debutant Matthew Sinclair amassed 214 runs off 447 balls. He lost his wicket to King in the 147th over although New Zealand won the game by an innings and 105 runs.

3. Brendon Kuruppu

Former Sri Lankan batsman Brendon Kuruppu is the only Asian player to score a double century on Test debut. Brendon achieved this unique feat against the New Zealand cricket team in 1987.

Playing in Colombo, the visitors won the toss and elected to field. Kuruppu opened the innings for Sri Lanka with Roshan Mahanama. The Blackcaps did not allow the Sri Lankan batters to convert their starts into big scores. But Kuruppu held one end and dominated the Kiwi bowlers.

Kuruppu batted in the middle for 777 minutes and scored 201 runs for his team. He faced 548 deliveries before captain Duleep Mendis declared the innings. The match ended in a draw.

2. Lawrence Rowe

New Zealand toured West Indies to play Test cricket in 1972. The home team named debutant Lawrence Rowe in their playing XI for the first Test at Kingston. Rowe impressed a lot in his first Test, as he scored 214 runs, hitting 19 fours and a six.

He built a monumental partnership of 269 runs with opening batsman Roy Fredericks. West Indies declared the innings at 508/4, but Glenn Turner's double century brought the Kiwis back into the game.

Lawrence Rowe then continued his fine form and aggregated 100 runs in the second innings as West Indies set a 341-run target for the Blackcaps. Eventually, the match ended in a stalemate.

1. Tip Foster

England's Tip Foster was the first batsman in cricket history to register a double century on Test debut. He achieved this feat back in 1903. Over 100 years have passed since then, but only six players have been able to join Foster in the elite club.

Foster scored a double century while making his Test debut versus the Australian cricket team. Australia scored 285 runs in the first innings and then reduced England to 117/4.

Tip Foster then played the greatest Test knock by a debutant as he scored 287 runs and guided England's score past 550. The English team won the game by five wickets.
