Sachin credits IPL, not Ranji Trophy, for India's recent success

Indian batting legend Sachin Tendulkar has credited the Indian Premier League (IPL) more than the Ranji Trophy to the recent successes of the Indian cricket team.

Sachin believes that the IPL has given the youngsters exposure and made them believe that they can compete against anyone in the world before pointing out that everyone takes notice only when a player does well in the IPL. He also praised the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Kuldeep Yadav and Mayank Agarwal for their performances in the recently-concluded Test series in Australia where India created history by winning the series 2-1.

Talking during an IDBI Federal Life Insurance event in Mumbai, Sachin said, "IPL, I think, has had a tremendous contribution. It has given exposure to our youngsters; to believe that they can compete against anyone in the world. I think we are in that fortunate position to dominate in the world. We have the right balance but overall I feel (if) you do well in the IPL, everyone takes notice."

He added, "Those guys may have done really well in Ranji Trophy or in the Duleep Trophy but the rest of the world does not know about it. IPL takes you to a different level altogether. That has been our strength and in the last 10 years of IPL, we have seen more and more young talent flourish, and that is only because the right platform was provided."

Australian jersey for the ODI series against India unveiled

The Australian team with their ODI jersey for the series against India

The Australian cricket team, ahead of the upcoming three-match ODI series against India, has given everyone a nostalgic feel as they unveiled their kit for the series that gets underway on January 12 at the SCG.

The kit which the hosts will be wearing is similar to the one that Allan Border's men wore in the 1986 ODI series against India. The retro kits that will be worn during the upcoming series will have a bright gold top with a huge green stripe across the chest and a green collar and a bright gold pant.

Fast bowler Peter Siddle, who has been recalled to the ODI after playing his last game in the Aussie colors in 2010, is thrilled to see the green and gold kits.

"It's pretty awesome actually. We found out the other day we were going to be in it, so the boys were a bit excited to get their pack and open up and check it out. Everyone is very impressed," he told cricket.com.au.

Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul to face suspensions

India ODI Headshots Session

Under fire for his 'racist', 'sexist' and 'misogynist' comments on women on a popular television talk show Koffee With Karan, Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya could face immediate suspension alongside opener, KL Rahul.

Rahul did no wrong but found himself in the bad books of BCCI for his national teammate's act. BCCI Treasurer Anirudh Chaudhry has called for a harsher penalty than the two-match suspension initially proposed by CoA member Vinod Rai.

According to a letter which is doing the rounds, Chaudhry wrote, "As far as the quantum of the punishment is concerned if the players are found guilty as per the procedures laid down in the Rules and Regulations, keeping in view the above factors and discussions, a two-match suspension seems to be merely a stop-gap arrangement especially considering that the CoA had banned Mr. Smith and Mr. Warner for a season."

He added, "The players must be immediately suspended pending a proper inquiry and must be allowed to join the team (if selected) only once they have gone through a proper sensitization in addition to serving a ban if imposed upon them. In any case, the entire team and support staff must go through a sensitization process. The CEO may join them in the sensitization as well as recommended by Ms. Veena Gowda, Advocate."
