India slip to No.4 in ICC Test rankings after Bangladesh draw

India and Bangladesh share the trophy after the Test ended in a draw

India have dropped down to No.4 in the ICC Test Rankings after their one-off Test match against Bangladesh ended in a draw on Sunday. The visitors tried their best to get a positive result on the final day, but they ultimately just did not have enough time to force through a victory. Courtesy of the result, they have dropped two points and are tied at fourth spot with England and Pakistan.

Going into the fifth and final day, Bangladesh were 111 for 3 with a deficit of 351 runs. Anything other than a draw seemed unlikely, but that didn’t prevent the Indian bowlers from putting together a collective effort to bundle out the Bangladeshis for 256 in the first innings. Ravichandran Ashwin, in particular, was absolutely outstanding as he took 5 for 87 from his 25 overs and showed why he is the No.1 spinner in Indian cricket today.

With a deficit of 206 runs after the first innings, enforcing the follow-on was a no-brainer with India’s only hope being that they somehow take the remaining 10 wickets in the limited time allotted, but a secure start from the Bangladesh openers led the two teams to call off the match an hour in advance.

New Zealand have taken advantage of India’s slip as they have moved up to No.3 in the rankings. There is no change, however, to the top two with South Africa and Australia continuing their dominance at the top of the rankings.
