India vs Australia 2013: 5th ODI in Cuttack likely to be cancelled due to incessant rains

The 5th ODI of the ongoing India-Australia series, which was scheduled on Saturday, is likely to be cancelled after continuous rains in Cuttack.

After non-stop rains over the past couple of days, the Barabati stadium is in a bleak condition, with the outfield completely flooded, and the players haven’t been able to train since reaching the venue.

Cricbuzz reports that match referee Roshan Mahanama and umpires inspected the field and had a close-door conference, but no official confirmation has been made yet.

Harsha Bhogle too tweeted about the gloom surrounding the venue after landing in Bhubaneswar a few hours ago:

Yesterday, captain George Bailey too commented on the bad weather in Cuttack.

“It looks like it’s pretty wet in Cuttack too,” said Bailey on Wednesday. “There’s a couple of pictures going around where the ground is half under water. Hopefully, that can clear up in the next couple of days.”

The 4th ODI in Ranchi was washed out too after the first innings where Australia made 295/8.

The visitors currently lead the 7-match series 2-1 and if there’s a second consecutive washout, India will have to win the remaining 2 matches, scheduled to be played in Nagpur and Bangalore, to win the series.
