After the humiliation meted out to the England team by hosts India, there have been clarion calls made to overhaul the entire team structure by many former England players.

Alastair Cook has already made it clear that he is looking at his future as captain of the Test side after this series and has also endorsed Joe Root to assume charge of the team.

Former opening batsman and one of the most respected voices in English Cricket, Geoffrey Boycott has said that if England are to compete in the upcoming 5th Test Match, the entire team needs to overhauled.

"I've been in games like this, on winning sides and losing sides - when the rolling stone is going downhill, it's very difficult to stop it. "You just fold. You don't give up but it just goes badly," Boycott said on BBC Radio 5 Live's Test Match Special podcast.

Boycott also questioned the composition of the side which was fielded in the fourth Test match. England went in with 4 seamers and only 2 spinners on a pitch which was conducive to spin bowling. Captain Cook backed this decision, but Boycott was not convinced.

"If the pitch in the next Test is going to be like this, you can open the bowling with (James) Anderson and (Ben) Stokes. You need a third spinner and an extra batsman," Boycott noted.

He also said that the selectors need to pick players designed for specific purposes and not go according to past record and form.

"I don't care who you leave out. You can't pick Stuart Broad just because he's a good bowler and he says he's fit, you can't pick Chris Woakes just because he's had the best year of his life," Boycott said.

The former Yorkshire legend also said that he would play an extra batsman and would most probably rope in another Lions batsman.

Another former captain, Nasser Hussain was quite vocal in his assessment of the England team. He also spoke about Alastair Cook after the current Test skipper appeared sceptical about his job as the leader of the side.

"Only Alastair Cook will know if he's still got the hunger and appetite to carry on as England captain, and the energy to drive the team forward," Cook was as quoted by Daily Mail.

"If he still feels the same way he did when he started, if every defeat hurts him as much now as it did then, I believe he should carry on," he added.
