An elegant batsman, with finesse with the wrists were evergreen to watch. When the going what tough, Vishy got going, as he seemed to have saved his best performances against the most dominant sides on challenging tracks.

His knock of 97* against the Windies in Chennai, out of a total of 190 set the foundation of an Indian victory. He also notched a century in India's epic run chase of 406 against the Caribbeans at the Port-of-Spain, the highest chase of that time.

Viswanath was one of the finest batting talents produced by India, which can be asserted by the fact that India never lost a match when Viswanath made a century.
