While the senior Indian team has whitewashed the Kiwis in the T20 series, the junior team is doing equally well as the India Under 19 team progressed to the semi-finals of the Under 19 World Cup after defeating Australia in the quarter-finals. The Indian U19 side has been in top form as they haven’t lost a single game till now.

They started the World Cup with a good win against Sri Lanka. They thrashed Japan and then won against New Zealand as well to proceed to the quarters. In the quarter-final, even though India didn't manage to put a huge score on the board their bowlers managed to win the game for India.

Some of these junior players were doing well even before the World Cup and were already picked by IPL franchises. We have seen in the past, players like Rishabh Pant, Prithvi Shaw and Shubman Gill who made an impact in the U19 World Cup, coming and performing in the IPL as well.

Just like every U19 World Cup, these players have the potential to become future superstars. Some of these players have a good chance to take the IPL by storm in the upcoming season. So, let’s have a look at four such players who could perform well for their respective teams.

Priyam Garg is the captain of the current India U19 team. He is doing a good job as a captain with the team winning consistently. Garg is a middle-order batsman who generally bats at No.3 or No.4. The Indian openers are so strong that he has batted only twice in the four games.

In the couple of games that he has batted, he scored a well compiled fifty in the first game against Sri Lanka. He has performed well at the domestic level also.

Sunrisers Hyderabad picked up Priyam Garg for ₹ 1.9 crores in the IPL Auction. SRH were in search of middle-order batsmen and it seems that they are going to back the youngster for the upcoming season. The transition from the U19 level to the IPL won’t be easy but Garg has the talent and a good head to perform well in the IPL.

3. Ravi Bishnoi – Kings XI Punjab

India has been the land of spinners and Ravi Bishnoi is the latest sensation. Bishnoi is a right-arm leg-spinner who is performing well in the U19 World Cup.

In just four games Bishnoi has picked up 11 wickets at an average of 9.55 and an economy rate of 3.28. These numbers are staggering for any bowler. Against Japan, he had phenomenal numbers. He started the match with two double-wicket maidens. At the end of the game, his figures were 8-3-5-4. His epic performance resulted in Japan being bowled out for just 41 runs.

Kings XI Punjab picked him up for ₹ 2 Crores in this year’s IPL auction. Wrist-spinners have always been successful in the IPL and Bishnoi can do well for a team like KXIP who will miss the services of R Ashwin. Ravi Bishnoi might get a lot of opportunities with the Punjab team and there is a high possibility that he will do a great job.

2. Kartik Tyagi – Rajasthan Royals

After the quarter-final against Australia, everybody was talking about Kartik Tyagi. The right-arm pacer from Uttar Pradesh was the main reason as to why India could defend a below-par total against the Australian side.

Chasing 234, Australia were reduced to 17-4 inside five overs with Kartik Tyagi picking up three of those four wickets with the other being a run out. He was bowling in good areas and at good pace. In the same game, when a partnership was building, he came back and took another wicket to break the partnership.

Even in the game against Japan he picked up three wickets. He has been in terrific form in this World Cup. Rajasthan Royals picked up the right-arm pacer for ₹ 1.3 Crores in the IPL auction. RR needed Indian pacers and they are backing the young quick bowler. He will get to learn a lot from Jofra Archer who will be on the same team with him.

If handled well, Tyagi has the potential to be a match-winner for whichever team he plays in the future.

All the talk before as well as during the World Cup has been about the left-handed opener from Mumbai – Yashasvi Jaiswal. The day he scored the double hundred in the List A game and became the youngest to do so, he was the talk of the town. Before the World Cup, all the eyes were on Jaiswal and he has shown the reason behind that with his performance.

In the four games, he has scored 207 runs at an average of 103.5 and a strike-rate of 82.47. He has crossed the fifty-run mark in three of those four games. The only game in which he didn’t cross that mark, the target was just 42 runs and he remained unbeaten there as well.

Jaiswal will be part of the Rajasthan Royals as they bought him in the auction for ₹ 2.4 Crores. The RR management rates him highly and it will be interesting to see how they use him. If used properly, Jaiswal can be a great performer for Rajasthan Royals this season.
