IPL 2023: Qualifier 2 - Gujarat Titans v Mumbai Indians

The Punjab Kings (PBKS) and the Mumbai Indians (MI) will square off in the 33rd match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 in Mullanpur on Thursday, April 18.

Both teams have had mixed campaigns so far in this year's IPL, with each winning two out of their six games. While PBKS are placed eighth in the standings, Mumbai find themselves one spot below in ninth.

With the race for the playoffs heating up, both teams will look to win tonight and move up in the standings. Thus, a cracker of a contest beckons fans in Mullanpur. The wickets have largely been batting-friendly, and will likely be the same on Thursday.

On that note, let's take a look at three players who could score the most runs in today's PBKS vs MI clash.

#1 Rohit Sharma - MI

The former MI skipper scored a brilliant hundred in the last game against the Chennai Super Kings, albeit in a losing cause. He remained unbeaten on 105 off 63 balls with the aid of 11 boundaries and five sixes.

Rohit Sharma has looked in good form since this year's tournament started. With the T20 World Cup approaching thick and fast, the right-handed batter will aim to keep the momentum going, as India look to end their ICC trophy drought.

Overall, Rohit has amassed 261 runs in five matches at an average of 52.20 and a strike rate of almost 170. He is currently the six-highest scorer in the top-scorers list.

#2 Sam Curran - PBKS

Punjab's top-order looks extremely lean, even more so without Shikhar Dhawan, who is out due to injury. Jonny Bairstow has also struggled to get going at the venue, registering scores of 9, 0, and 15.

If PBKS have to put a daunting total on the board, responsibility lies on the shoulder of stand-in skipper Sam Curran. The left-handed batter has batted well in patches and will look to lead his side from the front against Mumbai.

Curran hasscored 126 runs in six matches, including one half-century.

#3 Suryakumar Yadav - MI

The No.1-ranked batter in T20Is, Suryakumar Yadav, has had an eventful IPL 2024 campaign since he joined the team after recovering from injury.

He bagged a duck on his return before smashing a quickfire fifty against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the next game. In the following match against Chennai, the right-hander returned without troubling the scorers once again.

Despite bagging two ducks, there is no doubting Suryakumar's ability. He can single-handedly win games and will look to hit the straps, as Mumbai look to turn their campaign around.
