Misbah ul-Haq becomes Pakistan's most successful Test captain with a massive win over NZ

Misbah Ul-Haq

If his team’s thrashing of New Zealand by a whopping margin of 248 runs wasn't enough good news, Misbah ul-Haq has now become Pakistan’s most successful Test captain. This was the 40-year-old’s 15th Test win as skipper, going past greats Imran Khan and Javed Miandad, who both won 14 Test matches as captain. Courtesy of the victory, he is now 23rd on the overall list of captains with most Test wins.

Pakistan first amassed a massive 566 for 3 in their first innings, thanks to hundreds from Ahmed Shehzad, Younis Khan and Misbah himself, and then scored 175 for 2 declared after dismissing the Kiwis for 262 in their first innings. Set to chase 480 in the fourth innings, New Zealand were bowled out for 231, thanks to an all-round bowling effort from the Pakistan bowlers.

It's been a good month for Misbah, who just recently scored the fastest century in Test history off 56 balls against Australia in the second of the 2-match Test series. This is Pakistan’s third consecutive win in as many test matches in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). He took over the Test reins in 2010 after Pakistan cricket was rocked by the spot-fixing controversy.

List of Pakistan captains with most Test wins:

Player Name Number of Test matches captained Number of Test wins
Misbah Ul-Haq 32 15
Imran Khan 48 14
Javed Miandad 34 14
Wasim Akram 25 12
