MS Dhoni trains with Indian team ahead of Sydney Test

MS Dhoni announced his Test retirement after the 3rd Test in Melbourne

MS Dhoni might have retired from Test cricket after the 3rd Test against Australia in Melbourne, but that didn’t prevent him from joining the Indian team for their training session on Sunday ahead of the Sydney Test starting on Tuesday. Although the 33-year-old has called it quits from the longer format of the game, he will be on standby for Wriddhiman Saha in case anything untoward happens to the Bengal wicketkeeper, team director Ravi Shastri confirmed.

While Dhoni hasn’t clarified the exact reasons for his Test retirement as yet, it is believed that India’s hectic international schedule over the past few years took a toll on his body and prompted him to take the brave decision. He can now focus on limited-overs cricket exclusively.

With Dhoni having relieved himself of Test duties, a huge burden has been taken off his shoulders and that was visible during India’s net session earlier today. He was one of the first persons to attend practice and bowled seam up to quite a few of the batsmen with palpable enthusiasm.

India are currently trailing Australia 0-2 in the series and will be looking to salvage some pride in the 4th Test under Virat Kohli’s leadership.
