Retired Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin was furious with the umpire in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2025 game between the Dindigul Dragons and IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans. The match was played on Sunday in Coimbatore. In a video that surfaced on Star Sports, the Dragons captain also thumped his pad with the bat in anger after being adjudged lbw for 18.

The dismissal occurred in the fifth over of the innings sent down by left-arm spinner R Sai Kishore. With Ashwin going for the paddle sweep, he missed the ball completely, and it hit him on the pad. The umpire took some time before raising the finger. The Tamil Nadu-born cricketer was furious with the umpire, speaking to her about the dismissal. They also didn't have any reviews to bank on.

The 38-year-old had looked in good nick until that dismissal. However, he had to walk back for 18 off 11 deliveries with two fours and a six while opening the innings.

Meanwhile, the Dragons have already lost nine wickets against the Tamizhans, and their skipper is one among their three batters to reach double figures. Although the Dragons' first wicket fell at 39, they kept losing batters one after the other consistently after that.

Dragons were eventually bowled out for 93 in 16.2 overs as Essakimutthu A finished as the pick of the bowlers with figures of 4-0-26-4. Sai Kishore chipped in with a couple of scalps, while M Mathivannan took three.

Ashwin had struggled in the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and failed to justify the price tag of ₹9.75 shelled out by the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). In nine matches, the veteran off-spinner managed only seven wickets at 40.43.

He had announced his international retirement during the Brisbane Test against Australia last year. The champion cricketer retired as India's second-highest wicket-taker in Tests with 537 scalps in 106 matches and also peeled off six hundreds.
