Cricket Australia (CA) has added another 10-year ban on former Sri Lanka cricketer and coach Dulip Samaraweera after allegations surfaced that he behaved inappropriately with a second female cricketer while employed by Cricket Victoria.
In September, he was suspended for 20 years from any cricketing involvement in the country after alleged inappropriate behaviour towards a player. This new 10-year ban, relating to a his time as a private coach, will run concurrently to the first.
According to AAP, neither complainant has opted to press criminal charges, yet. Samaraweera denied the latest allegation but didn't participate in the investigation.
Samaraweera won't be able to take any positions, coaching or otherwise, within the CA, the Big Bash League, the Women's Big Bash League or the state associations until 2044, when he'll be 72.
Samaraweera, who played seven Tests for Sri Lanka, served as a long-time Victoria Women assistant coach and, since the innagural WBBL in 2015, Melbourne Stars women's assistant coach.
He even served as Victoria Women's head coach for a big part of the last year and took the role full-time this May. However, he resigned only two weeks later after being denied appointment of his brother, Thilan, to his staff due to state policies against conflict of interest.
"Victim has demonstrated incredible strength" - Cricket Victoira chief on Samaraweera's charges
After the initial charge came out, Cricket Victoira chief Nick Cummins labelled Samaraweera's conduct "utterly reprehensible" and a "betrayal" for everything the organisation stands for.
"The victim in this case has demonstrated incredible strength of character and courage in speaking up," Cummins had said at the time. "She will continue to receive our ongoing support to allow her to achieve her goals on and off the field."
"From an organisation perspective, the safety and wellbeing of everyone at Cricket Victoria is paramount. We will not tolerate any behaviour which compromises that position, or our people, and will always support our culture of speaking up."
Samaraweera opened for Sri Lanka in seven Tests between 1993-95 before transitioning into coaching.
