Australia's Cameron Green failed to impress in his first stint in the top order after falling to Kagiso Rabada in the early stages of Day 1 of the 2025 World Test Championship (WTC) Final against South Africa on June 11 at Lord's. The all-rounder got off the mark with a streaky boundary, but was dismissed soon after courtesy of a brilliant catch at slips by Aiden Markram.
Australia were sent into bat by South Africa skipper Temba Bavuma, who cited the overcast conditions as a major factor. Kagiso Rabada and Marco Jansen made things difficult for the new opening pair of Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne.
Rabada made the early breakthrough in the seventh over by dismissing Khawaja for a 20-ball duck. The pacer then erred in his line to bowl a wayward delivery first up to Cameron Green, who managed to send it to the boundary after making contact with the toe end.
A couple of deliveries later, the spearhead pitched it full and managed to get a little movement off the surface. The ball nipped away just a touch as Green moved forward to defend it. The right-handed batter could not counter the late movement, causing the ball to catch the thick edge and head towards the slip cordon.
Wiaan Mulder dove full length towards his left from the third slip, but his movement did not deter Aiden Markram. The former skipper kept his composure intact to claim a low catch at second slip to seal the second breakthrough in the same over.
Have a look at the dismissal right here:
Cameron Green had come into the WTC Final with some runs under his belt in red-ball cricket. The all-rounder piled runs for Gloucestershire in the County Championship, recording consecutive hundreds in his most recent fixtures. Prior to that, he was sidelined due to a lengthy injury layoff, forcing him to miss the Border-Gavaskar series at home.
Australia looking to recover after Kagiso Rabada's double strike
Kagiso Rabada's opening spell is proving to be fruitful for the Proteas as he conceded just five runs from his first four overs, along with the two valuable wickets.
At the time of writing, Australia are trying to recover from the early wickets through the trusted pair of Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne. After 10 overs, the score reads 26-2, with Lungi Nigidi being introduced into the attack.
