Team India batter KL Rahul's coach, Samuel Jayaraj has heaped praise on the cricketer for adapting to various roles during his career without much fuss. Jayaraj was particularly impressed with the veteran for not getting frustrated after being snubbed for the T20 World Cup last year.

KL Rahul hasn't been around the T20I set-up recently, but expressed his wish to be part of the plans ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026, set to be played in India and Sri Lanka.

Jayaraj, Rahul's childhood coach, revealed that he was ready to perform any role even as a youngster. He cited how specific the 33-year-old's role was during the Champions Trophy 2025, and he did it to perfection. He said, as quoted by The Hindustan Times:

"If you ask me, as a coach, this isn't surprising. He was always ready. He was also a wicketkeeper. He would smartly rotate strike, taking singles on the fourth, fifth, or sixth ball, then face the next over. He follows instructions really well. If you noticed in the Champions Trophy, his role was very specific—and he executed it perfectly.
"In fact, despite having a very good ODI World Cup, he wasn't picked for the T20 World Cup. He didn't crib or get frustrated. Because he has seen these things as a kid. That’s why he’s so strong today both mentally and technically."

Rahul was part of the Delhi Capitals in IPL 2025 and had a successful season with them, aggregating 539 runs in 13 matches at 53.90.

Jayaraj said that his message to the keeper-batter had always been to enjoy his game. He added:

"I always tell him just one thing — enjoy and become. That’s always been my message, my mantra, even my password, you could say. You have to enjoy what you do. You have to be happy. If you're not happy, your body simply won’t respond the way you want it to. In England, a more and more matured KL Rahul will be seen."

The elegant right-hander has likely sealed his spot for the first Test against England with a century for India A vs England Lions in Northampton.
