Team India will return to Test cricket when they host Bangladesh in a two-match series, starting on Thursday, September 19, at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Both teams will look to bag maximum points to strengthen their position in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) table.
The Bangla Tigers will be high on confidence after whitewashing Pakistan 2-0 at their den. They registered their maiden Test win over the Men in Green in the series opener before making it two out of as many in the next fixture.
India, on the other hand, thrashed England 4-1 in their last Test series. They will hope to pick up from where they exactly left against England earlier this year. Several heavyweight Indian stars will be in action, as they look to extend their lead at the top of the WTC points table.
Plenty of runs are expected in the upcoming series with both teams boasting several world-class batters. The likes of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Mushfiqur Rahim among others will be in action in the upcoming Test series.
On that note, let's take a look at three batters who could finish as the top run-scorers in the India vs Bangladesh Test series.
#1 Virat Kohli
The former Indian skipper was last seen in action during the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka. He had an average outing, aggregating only 58 runs in three games.
However, Virat Kohli has had enough time to refresh and has looked in good intensity during the training sessions in Chennai. The right-handed batter will look to return among the runs against Bangladesh and if the net sessions are anything to go by, he is only a couple of inches away from a big series.
He will also be determined to stamp his authority against spinners after coming under the scanner recently during the ODI series against the Lankans.
Kohli also enjoys a decent record against the Bangla Tigers, amassing 437 runs in six matches at an average of 54.62, including two centuries.
#2 Mushfiqur Rahim
The senior wicketkeeper-batter has done the heavy lifting with the bat every time Bangladesh have come under the scanner. He will again be an integral part of the team, as they look to register their maiden Test victory over India.
Mushfiqur Rahim is also coming on the back of an excellent series against Pakistan. He was the second-highest scorer with 216 runs in three innings at an average of almost 110. He also played a marathon knock of 191 runs to guide Bangladesh to victory from the jaws of defeat.
Mushfiqur will hope to continue the form against India and play a lead role in helping the team cause another upset. He also enjoys a brilliant record against the Men in Blue, aggregating 331 runs in six innings at an average of 55.16, including two half-centuries and one hundred.
#3 Yashasvi Jaiswal
The young left-handed opener was the standout performer during India's last Test series against England earlier this year. He finished as the highest scorer in the five-match series, aggregating 712 runs in nine innings at an average of 89, including two centuries and three fifties. Yashasvi Jaiswal smashed an unbeaten 214 in the third Test in Rajkot - his highest score in Test cricket.
Jaiswal has been one of India's highest scorers since his international debut and will be looking to carry on the good form. The Mumbai cricketer has looked good both against pace and spin and his aggressive game holds him in good stead to finish as the highest run-scorer in the upcoming series.
