Ranji Trophy has been the platform for the domestic players to showcase their talent at the domestic level while playing with some highly qualified players. Ranji Trophy has gained lots of fans since its inaugural season itself as its format was a huge hit.

The first ever edition of the Ranji Trophy was played in the year 1934. The competition was named after the English cricketer of Indian origin, Ranjitsinhji. Since then every year, this mega-event takes place. In 2018-19, 37 teams competed to win the glittering trophy.

The 2 players are at the top of the batting and bowling leaderboards in the history of Ranji Trophy right from 1934 to present are Wasim Jaffer and Rajinder Goel.

Jaffer has so far scored the most runs in the history of Ranji trophy (11,775). On the other hand, Rajinder has etched his name as the best bowler by being the highest wicket-taker of Ranji Trophy with a total of 640 wickets.

Vidarbha won their 2nd consecutive Ranji Trophy title this year after defeating Saurashtra by 78 runs in the final. However, there were players from other teams as well who shone this season and so, here are the top 10 performers of Ranji Trophy 2018-19.


#1 Milind Kumar- Delhi (Most Runs- 1,331)

To emerge as the leading run-scorer of the premier domestic tournament is the dream of every batsman wanting to play cricket at a competitive level. However, every batsman is not able to score big as it demands huge patience and strength. Milind Kumar proved his worth as he emerged out as the leading run scorer from this year’s tournament.

Kumar smashed a total of 1331 runs from just 8 matches. He scored these runs at a mind-boggling average of 121 which proves why he was the best batsman of this season.

#2 Ashutosh Aman- Bihar (Most Wickets- 68)

Bihar’s bowling attack proved to be one of the best in the Ranji Trophy 2018-19 as they had the best spinner of the season in their side. Ashutosh Aman completely changed the fate of his home side in this event. Aman emerged as the best bowler of the 2018-19 Ranji season.

Ashutosh grabbed a total of 68 wickets at the average of 6.49 which clearly proves why he was the best bowler this season. With this feat, he also managed to break the record of Bishan Singh Bedi’s 64 wickets in a single season of Ranji. He played just 7 matches but still managed to achieve this record and stun cricket fans.


#3 Kartik Joshi- Uttarakhand (Best Batting Average- 214)

Kartik Joshi piled up runs at a brilliant average in the Ranji Trophy as he stunned the whole crowd with his batting performances at this mega-event. He played for Uttarakhand in the latest edition and created a huge impact on his team‘s fortunes.

However, Kartik managed to play just 3 matches and batted in 2 innings. In spite of this, he tried his best for his side as he scored a total of 214 runs from his 3 matches. He hit a double century (208*) in the league stage as well. As he was dismissed only once, he had an average of 214 in the tournament.

#4 Suryakant Pradhan- Odisha (Best Batting Strike Rate- 115.08)

Ranji Trophy doesn’t promote hard-hitting as the games last for 4 days and demand a huge amount of patience and stamina from the players. However, there are few batsmen who proved this wrong as they struck the ball at a rate of 100+. Suryakant Pradhan is one such player who did the same in this season.

Pradhan scored the runs at the strike rate of 115.08 which was the highest of the tournament. He scored the total of 229 runs from 7 matches at such an awe-inspiring strike rate while donning the white jersey for Odisha.


#5 Sheldon Jackson- Saurashtra (Most fifties- 7)

Sheldon Jackson played the main role for the Saurashtra team in the latest edition of Ranji Trophy. He, along with Cheteshwar Pujara managed to get his team to the final as they both played the role of the leading pillars for their side.

Jackson smashed a total of 7 half-centuries in this tournament along with scoring 853 runs from 11 matches. Rishi Dhawan also scored the same number of half-centuries but stayed at the second position as his total number of runs were lesser than Jackson’s 853 runs.

#6 Siddhesh Lad- Mumbai (Most Nineties- 2)

Mumbai has been the most successful team in the history of Ranji Trophy. They have some of the best quality players in their line-up every season and they perform the best for their side. That is the main reason Mumbai has won the Ranji Trophy for 41 times so far.

Siddhesh Lad performed the role of the cornerstone for Mumbai in the 2018-19 Ranji season with his patience and calmness. He scored big for his team and was dismissed in his nineties, twice in 7 matches. Lad had the most number of 90s in this year Ranji’s Trophy , hence he needs to work more on his game and try to score big.


#7 Shivam Dubey- Mumbai (Most Sixes- 25)

When it comes to Ranji Trophy, Mumbai has always been the talk of the town. The main reason behind their consistent success is the presence of highly talented players like Shivam Dube in their side.

Dube made a huge impact in the latest edition of Ranji Trophy as he topped the leaderboard for most number of sixes. Dubey banged 25 sixes in the 8 matches he played.

#8 Basant Mohanty- Odisha (Best Economy Rate- 1.83)

To take wickets by conceding the least runs in an over is the main motive of every bowler of the world. Basant Mohanty succeeded in achieving this feat during the 2018-19 Ranji Trophy. He emerged as the most economical bowler from that tournament.

While playing for Odisha, he bowled a total of 281.2 overs from 8 matches and conceded runs at a miserly economy rate of 1.83 runs per over along with grabbing 44 wickets.


#9 Jalaj Saxena- Kerala (Best bowling figures - 8/45)

Jalaj Saxena impressed the cricket fans with his bowling performances for Kerala as he grabbed the best bowling figures of Ranji Trophy 2018-19. While playing for Kerala, Saxena achieved this feat during the match against Andra Pradesh.

Saxena took the whole game in his team‘s favor as he bagged the total of 8 wickets in that innings shattering every batsman from the opposition side. He just conceded 45 runs in that innings and destroyed Andhra Pradesh’s batting line-up.

#10 Puneet Bisht- Delhi (Highest score- 343 runs)

The Delhi batsman Puneet Bisht made his presence felt at the mega-event of Ranji Trophy 2018-19. Playing as a wicket-keeper batsman for Delhi, Bisht had a great Ranji season. He played the role of the match savior for his home side.

Bisht was the first player to score a triple ton in the 2018/19 Ranji Trophy. He scored a total of 343 runs in an innings against Sikkim at the strike rate of 103.31 smashing each and every bowler of the opposition bowling attack. He played 332 balls in that innings and paced his innings well.

He had the highest score in an innings of the 2018-19 Ranji Trophy and the second best batsman on this list from his was 75 runs short. Shubman Gill was at the 2nd position in this category as he had smashed 268 runs in an innings against Tamil Nadu.
