The Indian squad for the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 was announced a few days back. Once again a few inexperienced players made the cut. The batting looks strong with Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant, Ishan Kishan and KL Rahul in the team.

Hardik Pandya may not have performed well in the recent series, but he is a match-winner. The selection of spinners is quite interesting as the selectors ignored Yuzvendra Chahal and went for the quartet of Ravichandran Ashwin, Varun CV, Rahul Chahar and Axar Patel. Either one or two of the four names will play with Ravindra Jadeja.

The squad looks good on paper, but many fans feel there could have been a couple more experienced names in the team.

The Indian squad for the 2012 T20 World Cup had many experienced players. MS Dhoni, Yuvraj Singh, Zaheer Khan, Irfan Pathan, Harbhajan Singh, Suresh Raina and Gautam Gambhir were joined by the likes of Lakshmipathy Balaji, Virender Sehwag, Virat Kohli and Ravichandran Ashwin.

The squad seemingly had all bases covered. The team looked strong on paper as they topped Group A in Round 1. However, India missed out on a spot in the semifinals as they finished third in their Super 8s group.

#2 India's ICC T20 World Cup 2007 squad

The Indian squad for the T20 World Cup 2007 was perhaps one of the best ever. They had all bases covered, with two reliable openers in the form of Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir. Youngsters like Rohit Sharma and Robin Uthappa played fearless cricket, while Yuvraj Singh, Dinesh Karthik and MS Dhoni played their parts.

In RP Singh, Irfan Pathan, Ajit Agarkar, Joginder Sharma and Sreesanth, India assembled a dynamic pace-bowling attack. Harbhajan Singh and Piyush Chawla added more variety to the bowling lineup. All players lived up to their potential as the team played like a well-oiled unit and won the competition.

Although India may not have won the 2016 T20 World Cup, many fans would agree that the Indian team that played in that tournament was perhaps the best. Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Suresh Raina formed the top 4, while Hardik Pandya, MS Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh followed them.

The likes of Ajinkya Rahane and Manish Pandey were also present in the squad. In Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami and Ashish Nehra, India had the perfect blend of youth and experience in their pace attack. Similarly, the spin attack was properly balanced, with the inclusion of Harbhajan Singh, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Pawan Negi.

The Indian cricket team reached the semifinals in 2016, but they lost to the West Indies.
